COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo.—Utah leads a tight three-way race between the Utes, Westminster and Colorado, as teams participated in giant slalom races here as part of the Denver Invitational.
After the first day, Utah leads with 159 points, picking up 85 on the women's side to win the race, and another 74 in the men's race. Colorado and Westminster are both tied nine points back with 150. The Buffs won the men's race with 97 points. Westminster scored exactly 75 points in both races, taking second in the women's race and third in the men's.
Montana State's Nellie Talbot won the women's race with Colorado Mountain's Ainsley Proffit coming in second, earning her second-straight podium, and Utah's Kaja Norbye rounded out the podium.
On the men's side, Denver's Tobiak Kogler edged out Colorado's Jacob Dilling by just seven-hundredths of a second while Westminster's Mikkel Solbakken was another seven-hundredths back in third place. The podium was separated by just 14-hundredths of a second and fourth place Filip Forejtek was just another four-hundredths back of Solbakken.
Teams will now have the weekend off and head to Keystone to close out the DU Invitational Monday before continuing onto Steamboat Springs for the RMISA Championships Feb. 23-26.
