DENVER—Westminster's Hannah Saethereng, Colorado's Filip Wahlqvist, Utah's Kaja Norbye and Montana State's Gianluca Boehm were named the RMISA Skiers of the Meet for the Westminster and Utah Invitationals, conducted in Park City at Olympic Park the past four days.
Competing in slalom races on Jan. 17-18 and GS races Jan. 19-20, the first of each part of the Westminster meet and second the Utah meet, the four skiers each had an impressive start to the 2024 season.
Skier of the Meet is awarded to the top finisher by NCAA qualification standards in both races that comprise a meet. If skiers tie with their placements, the tiebreaker will be adding the times of the two races and comparing them between the tied skiers. Skiers can only win once per season.
Saethereng took the women's alpine Skier of the Meet honors by finishing seventh in the slalom race and winning the GS race. Wahlvist took the opposite approach, winning the slalom race and hitting the podium in third place in the GS race. He beat Alaska Anchorage's Leon Nikic (second in both races) on a time tiebreaker by nine-hundredths of a second.
Norbye picked up a win in the slalom race as part of the Utah Invitational and followed that up with a fourth place GS finish. Boehm hit the podium twice in the Utah meet, taking second in the slalom and third in the GS.
Skiers have about two weeks off before reporting to Steamboat Springs for the Colorado Invitational Feb. 1-3 followed shortly by the Denver Invitational Feb. 5-10.
