Westminster Sweeps Slalom Races On Day Two Of RMISA Championships

Thursday, February 24, 2022 • by Curtis Snyder, RMISA

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.—Westminster's Denise Dingsleder and Francesco Gori swept the individual championships at the RMISA Championships here at Howelsen Hill Thursday.

The meet, which doubles as the NCAA West Regional and CU's Spencer James Nelson Memorial Invitational, saw Utah keep it's lead but Wesminster close the gap in the final alpine standings.

The Utes lead at the halfway point of the meet with 334 points, six ahead of Westminter's total of 328. With the Griffins not having a Nordic team, the Utes' lead heading into the Nordic events is essentially 46 points, the lead it has on third place Denver (288). Host Colorado sits in fourth with 241.5 points and Montana State rounds out the top five with 233.

Behind Dingsleder, Montana State's Kristiane Bekkestad was second and Utah's Katie Vesterstein third to round out the podium. In men's action behind Gori was teammate Mikkel Solbakken in second and Utah's Gustav Vollo in third.

The alpine teams will ski another slalom race Friday, an extra qualifier that will signal the end of the regular season. Saturday alpine teams will compete in a parallel slalom exhibition.

Nordic action gets underway Friday with the 5K women's and 10K men's freesytle races.
