PARK CITY, Utah— RMISA alpine action continued Sunday at Utah Olympic Park with an NCAA giant slalom qualifier, featuring tight margins on the women’s side and a breakthrough victory in the men’s race.
Colorado’s Feb Allasina earned the first collegiate win of his career, posting the fastest first run and holding on for the overall title in 2:06.59. Teammate Filip Wahlqvist finished second, and Utah’s Johs Herland completed the men’s podium in third as the top three were separated by less than six-tenths of a second.
In the women’s race, Denver’s Sara Rask won in 2:08.18, setting a University of Denver record with the 19th victory of her collegiate career. Rask edged Colorado’s Louison Accambray by .08 seconds, and Denver’s Cecilia Pizzinato took third after leading the field in the opening run. The women’s race featured close competition throughout both runs.
The qualifier races are not part of a meet team score, but count toward NCAA Championships qualification and seeding as the alpine regular season continues at Utah Olympic Park.
