DENVER—UAF's Kendall Kramer and Utah's Brian Bushey picked up RMISA Skier of the Meet honors for their respective performances in the Utah Invitational Friday and Saturday at Soldier Hollow in Midway, Utah.
Kramer dominated the field by winning both races in impressive fashion. She first won the 7.5K freestyle race on Thursday by 15 seconds and then in the 10K classic pursuit, she didn't rest on that lead, she extended it with the fastest classic time in the field, eventually winning the pursuit race by more than 30 seconds.
Bushey nearly accomplished the sweep but for teammate Joe Davies. Like Kramer, Bushey won the men's 7.5K freestyle race, but the margin was much closer with the top seven skiers within 20 seconds of each other. Bushey did throw down the second fastest 10K classic time and he did take second as Davies won the race by 30 seconds and in the end finished 18 seconds ahead of Bushey.
The award is given to the skier who has the best combined placement in each race with in an invitational. Skiers cannot win more than once in a season and any ties are broken by combining the skier's times.
This is the second set of awards with MSU's Tilde Baangman and Denver's Andreas Kirkeng taking home the honors from the Westminster Invitational, meaning four different teams have earned the honor through the first two meets.
